A needless death...

Here's a tragic story from the Ottawa Citizen:
A Quebec judge convicted self-proclaimed naturopath Louise Lortie of manslaughter and criminal negligence causing death for advising a woman to replace her diabetic daughter's insulin treatment with cane sugar, pear juice, olive oil massages and sea salt baths.

Mrs. Lortie testified that she gave this advice after consulting a crystal ball, a pendulum and her archangel, Michael.

Lisanne Manseau, 12, of Hull, died March 28, 1994, three days after starting Mrs. Lortie's treatment.
Why wasn't the Mother ever charged? And, what's more amazing is that it's taken this long for the case to reach a conclusion. Lortie was originally convicted in 1999 but won on appeal and received a new trial.
