Shame on Elvis Costello....

He withdraws from two concerts in Israel....
It is after considerable contemplation that I have lately arrived at the decision that I must withdraw from the two performances scheduled in Israel on the 30th of June and the 1st of July.

One lives in hope that music is more than mere noise, filling up idle time, whether intending to elate or lament.

Then there are occasions when merely having your name added to a concert schedule may be interpreted as a political act that resonates more than anything that might be sung and it may be assumed that one has no mind for the suffering of the innocent.

I must believe that the audience for the coming concerts would have contained many people who question the policies of their government on settlement and deplore conditions that visit intimidation, humiliation or much worse on Palestinian civilians in the name of national security.
Well, bad judgement is not ususual for musicians...

Though I don't agree with his point of view, at least he puts his money where his mouth is. This is unlike some actors in California that threaten to relocate out of the country if a certain person becomes President, then stays in the country when that does happen.

I liked Elivis back in the 70's..not so much now, as he has donned the mantle of 'take me seriously, for I am a musician'.

As my late ,lamented friend Bobby Kincaid used to say, 'Shut up and play!"

Unfortunately Elvis Costello only makes mere noise. What he produces is not music, it's aural garbage!

I would like to thank him for not impinging on the music-sensitive ears of Israelis and hope they now stop buying his records.

Costello is wet little anti-semite, just like annie lennox. and her two daughters are half Israeli. Yuck!

Juniper, we may disagree on the talent Elvis Costello has demonstrated as a musician and songwriter, but when you accuse someone of being a "wet little anti-semite" I'm going to call you on it. Where is your evidence? And while you're at it, you may as well present what you have on Annie Lennox.

i do not believe that elvis is a jew hater...

he may have said racist things against blacks in his drunken past...but not jews.

i just think he has made a bad error in judgement, which will cost him, when the promoter sues him for breach of contract

oh, and he used to make great music
